Friends Forever

I wanted to take a minute and recognize a very influential person in my life.
We have been friends since elementary school.
I have always felt very blessed in the friend department, throughout my life I have always been blessed with GREAT friends.
I am especially thankful for Silene.
This is her darling family, with one more on the way.
High School

It is difficult for me to talk about Silene without mentioning Tiff, we were the 'tres amigas'.

We did some crazy stupid things together.
Tiff, Silene and I were nicknamed 'bud-wise-er'

We did some spiritually uplifting things together.

Oh how I miss those days. We had so much fun.
I love reminiscing...it helps me cope with the stressors of today.
I still keep in contact with Tiff. Silene and I see each other atleast once a month and talk about once a week because we live close to each other now. Silene has always been someone I look up to and admire. Thanks for your example and friendship 'wene'. :)

Heaven is never too far...

The other day I saw a father and daughter at work together. I thought how lucky that girl was to be able to see her dad everyday. I wished for that. I longed for that. I wish that I could just call my dad and talk to him. I would be ok not seeing him everyday, but once in awhile would be WONDERFUL! I wish I could call him and get advice. I wish I could hear him call me "Roo" and feel him twirling my hair. He was such a great dad. He was someone I could always talk to, someone who thought the world of me, someone who made me feel important and special. My mother-in-law sent me this poem today, I have read it before but wanted to share it today because I thought it applied.

Daddy's Poem

Her hair was up in a pony tail, her favorite dress tied with a bow...

Today was Daddy's Day at school, and she couldn't wait to go.

Her mommy tried to tell her, she probably should stay home.

Why the kids might not understand, if she went to school alone.

But she was not afraid; She knew just what to say.

What to tell her classmates of why he wasn't there today.

But still her mother worried for her to face this day alone.

And that was why once again she tried to keep her daughter home.

But the little girl went to school eager to tell them all.

About a dad she never sees a dad who never calls.

There were daddies along the wall in back, for everyone to meet.

Children squirming impatiently, anxious in their seats

One by one the teacher called a student from the class.

To introduce their daddy, as seconds slowly passed.

At last the teacher called her name, every child turned to stare.

Each of them was searching for a man who wasn't there.

'Where's her daddy at?' She heard a boy call out.

'She probably doesn't have one,' Another student dared to shout.

And from somewhere near the back, she heard a daddy say,

'Looks like another deadbeat dad, too busy to waste his day.'

The words did not offend her, as she smiled up at her Mom.

And looked back at her teacher who told her to go on.

And with hands behind her back, slowly she began to speak.

And out from the mouth of a child, came words incredibly unique.

'My Daddy couldn't be here because he lives so far away.

But I know he wishes he could be, since this is such a special day.

And though you cannot meet him, I wanted you to know.

All about my daddy, and how much he loves me so.

He loved to tell me stories, he taught me to ride my bike.

He surprised me with pink roses, and taught me to fly a kite.

We used to share fudge sundaes and ice cream in a cone.

And though you cannot see him., I'm not standing here alone.

'Cause my daddy's always with me even though we are apart

I know because he told me, He'll forever be in my heart'

With that, her little hand reached up, and lay across her chest.

Feeling her own heartbeat, beneath her favorite dress.

And from somewhere in the crowd of dads, Her mother stood in tears.

Proudly watching her daughter who was wise beyond her years.

For she stood up for the love of a man not in her life.

Doing what was best for her, Doing what was right.

And when she dropped her hand back down, staring straight into the crowd.

She finished with a voice so soft, But its message clear and loud.

'I love my daddy very much, he's my shining star..

And if he could, he'd be here, but heaven's just too far.

Sometimes when I close my eyes, it's like he never went away.'

And then she closed her eyes, and saw him there that day.

And to her mothers amazement she witnessed with surprise.

A room full of daddies and children all starting to close their eyes.

Who knows what they saw before them, Who knows what they felt inside.

Perhaps for merely a second they saw him at her side.

'I know you're with me Daddy,' To the silence she called out.

And what happened next made believers, of those once filled with doubt.

Not one in that room could explain it, for each of their eyes had been closed.

But there on the desk beside her, was a fragrant long-stemmed rose.

And a child was blessed, if only for a moment, by the love of her shining star.

And given the gift of believing, heaven is never too far.

I know that Heaven is near, and those we have loved and lost are always more near than we realize. I am thankful for that belief. I am thankful I had such a terrific relationship with my dad. I love you Dad, miss you and look forward to the day when I get to "see" you again. Thank you for being such a good example to me, and showing me how to Be.

(Someday I'd like to write a book about my dad and our friendship.)

My scanner is not letting me edit these photos so this is the best I can do.

This little girl

So grad school has been causing me to work with this little girl.
To be a most effective therapist "they" say that a person needs to know who they are.
The therapist needs to be in-touch with their own "stuff".
I have been getting in-touch with this little girl lately.
I love her.
I am glad that I can help her and by helping her I help me.
This may sound a little kookie to some, but that is what I am up to lately.
She is so cute to me.
Her big brown eyes draw me in.
(I love the 80's)
I sometimes see her big brown eyes in my two little boys.
I sometimes see her big brown eyes when I look in the mirror.
I wish I had better words to describe what this is like. For now I'll just say it is inspiring and uplifting. I would recommend it.

Kids say the darndest things...

So yesterday we took the boys to a little family fun center TRAFALGA
and to the Sweet Tooth Fairy bakery for some family time. There was one point during the drive that David needed a tissue. He said he had a booger in his nose that was going to fall out. I did not happen to have any tissues or napkins or toilet paper in my car. (the tissues were all gone last week and I cleaned out the extra napkins last week too.) He was sort of freaking out.
Then Joey says "just eat it David".
(This is Joey two years ago.)
That grossed David out. David has always been a very obedient boy. If you tell him boogers have germs, don't eat them, he won't. Joey on the other hand is very different.

Life=Learning.

Can I just say how grateful I am to be alive.
I love life. I love living. Sometimes it can be difficult, but I still like it. I really like breathing air. I really like talking with my boys. I really like dealing with my issues when they are being dealt with (not when I am not dealing with them though). I really like helping others deal with their issues and feel their emotions. I really like reading peoples' blogs. I really love babies. I love pregnancy and I love it when babies are born. I'm not pregnant, but I know people who are and I love it. It is a beautiful thing! I love to see the blue sky. I love to spend time reminiscing. I love my family!

(This is David at 3 years old. He's now 6.)
I love this kid!
Recently, since the events in Haiti, he has been very concerned about the people there. He has been very concerned about earthquakes. He lost his third tooth the other day and he said he wants to give half of his money to the Haiti relief fund through the LDS church. (He really is a sweetheart.)
The other day he told me he was not feeling well. When I asked why, he asked something about what happens when we die? He has been so concerned with life. I suggested that he pray about it and ask Heavenly Father to help him feel better. That night he prayed about it and the next day he said he felt much better. The day after that however, he said he was not feeling well again. When I asked why he said "you know." I felt so sad for him. I remember when I was young, I worried often about where we came from, where we're going, how we were made. It is a scary thought for a little kid.
So we sat down on the couch and we were talking. There is a picture of Christ on my wall with some kids around it.

This one to be exact.
He looked at it and then back at me and with tears in his eyes he said "when I look at that picture I feel better." What a great teaching moment that was for us. I am so thankful for my son, well God's son that I get to raise.
I am so thankful for the holy ghost.
I am grateful for moments like this when I can feel the spirit and teach my son about the spirit. We talked about his feelings. I am glad that he feels comfortable enough with me that we can talk about these things. We have had quite a few moments to teach lately, and I like that.
Back to blogging I go.

Life update...

Just a little update.
(I want to get back into the habit of blogging again, but it probably won't happen for a couple of months while I am finishing up school, so this is what you get.)

The boys a couple days before Christmas. We took this picture for Gale Hale. The boys are in a blanket that was given to Dave when his friend Rhett Hale died. This is us on Christmas Eve at my mommas after opening Jammies.
I love spending time with my family :)
The boys playing Cooties on Christmas morning. I used to play that game all the time when I was their age at my Grandma Terry's.
Joey Christmas day, with his scooter and his "Wovrine" shirt. All he wanted was Wolverine stuff for Christmas.
David and his new bike. The boys were so easy to please again this Christmas. I hope they keep this up.

I love new Sunday clothes on my boys. They are so handsome! David is quite the poser!

I can't get Joey to stand still for two seconds, but he is still a handsome boy!!!
Last week we went to the Hogle zoo for some Saturday family time. It was nice to be together. Our favorite part of the zoo was the family of orangutans. They were funny and loveable.
Those are the pic updates I have for now. Life is good. I am ever so busy with school, internship, being a mom, wife, primary teacher, housecleaner, researcher etc. etc. you know the life. I'll keep trying to update this and get more interesting stuff. Lots o luff, Mrilla
